HR ROLE IN TALENT MANAGEMENT FOR ORGANISATIANAL SUCCESS
Introduction
Most valuable aspect of an organisation is human capital. Everyone
in an organisation has talents, some have more talents than others. Talent
management is crucial for each organisation to motivate, attract, retain,
engage and develop their employees. By aligning talent management with
strategic business objectives and goals, organizations can gain significant
benefits.
What is Talent Management?
According to Khatri at al. (2010), talent management is a process
of recruiting, managing, assessing, developing and retaining individuals who are
valuable to an organization, and this is a continuous process aiming to create
talented and motivated individuals who will stay with the company long term and
achieving the organisational goals. “Talent management is integral to involving
workers in the organisation” Morton (2005) sited by Rinaldhy (2021).
Importance of talent management
According to Rinaldhy (2021), talent management offers
numerous benefits for organisations such as improved retention, boost employee engagement
and productivity, attract talented people and high performance.

Talent Identification
Talent Identification is the crucial aspect of the talent management process and organisations must identify the talented and suitable individuals for the positions, then they add value to the organisation (Donnel et al., 2010). Organisations must identify talents internally and externally while internal strategies are skill matrix, competence, performance appraisal and external strategies are interviews, demonstrations and assessments etc. (Karunathilaka et al., 2015).
Talent Development
Talent development strategies are essential to create future leaders and develop high skilled employees to the organization. Most organizations including Sri Lankan contexts have developed learning organisational cultures to build their employee’s talents (Karunathilaka et al., 2015).
Talent Retain
Employee turnover contributes negative impact on each organisation,
reducing overall productivity. According to Davis et al. (2007). There are
several talent retention strategies such as motivation, rewarding, career investment
while career investment is crucial for retention of talented employees.
Talent management plays vital role in every organization. Sri
Lankan organisations faced significant challenges in recent years due to their inability
to retain talented employees due to economic crisis in the country. Many HR professionals in Sri Lanka still struggling with talent retention issues. It is essential to implement long term talent management strategies
in every organisation, especially Sri Lankan contexts, to enhance productivity,
retain and develop their skilled employees, and to achieve organisational long-term
goals.
