Introduction

 A learning, organisational culture is an environment that continuous learning and developments of knowledge, values and practices for both individuals and organisation. This culture encourages all employees and organisation to work toward their goals and open to new perspective, ideas and processes.

“A learning culture puts the continuous development of knowledge and skills at the heart of everything the organization does” (Greany 2021).

 

Importance of a learning, organisational culture

 Every organization must achieve their goals. When an organisation drives to succeed through the challenging business environments, it is essential to increase knowledge and improve performance across the organization to achieve goals and overcome the challenges. A learning environment upholds systems, values, practices and professional environment within the organisation. This culture encourages all employees to achieve their goals and open to new perspectives, ideas and processes (Indeed, 2024)

Continuous learning gives employees skills and knowledge to do their job better and more productively. This increased productivity also reduces the amount to spend on external consultants

Better knowledge, learning will help to cultivate the culture of innovation and blue-sky thinking.

Employees have the skills to think and work in an agile way, the organization becomes more agile.

v  Higher employee engagement

Employees are learning and gaining new skills, they will feel more empowered and confident. This will lead them to more engaged within their jog roll.

When people are more engaged, they do not think to abandon their job. This is very important benefit of being a learning organisation. When retention was improved, business running smoothly and growing very quickly.

Supporting learning at all levels of the organisation

According to the CIPD (2020), There are three main levels of learning in an organisation which are individual, team and organisation. Every organisation must have a wide vision to support each level of employees to enhance their learning by evaluating current learning environment and organisational needs. It is essential to have the practical steps to ensure that learning is supported at all levels of the organization.

Conclusion

By adopting a learning organisational culture, every organisation can easily achieve their long-term and short-term goals while ensuring continuous improvement.  Knowledgeable and skilled employees drive the organisation towards success. It helps each employee to gain more values and advancement to their career and open avenues for professional developments. Most leading Sri Lankan companies are currently allocating a significant amount from their annual budgets to employee training and development including author's organisation. The author's organisation has gained great benefits by investing in learning organisational culture over the last ten years.
