Introduction

Ethical practices and values are very important for each organisation. HR can play a vital role in this by implementing ethical practices and value in organisations. It gives significant benefits to all stakeholders. This article reviews the importance of ethical practices and how they benefit businesses.

 

What are the Ethical practices in Organisation?

According to Boyles (2023), ethical practices are the set of principles and standard that guide the organisational decision-making process, and they influence transparency, invite feedback, consider impact on employees, stakeholders and society, and encourage reflection on experiences to learn and improve.

According to CIPD (2024), Ethical practices can be divided into two parts where corporate governance which include employment, sales, accounting practices, and corporate responsibility.

Impotency of implementing Ethical culture

Ethical culture plays a crucial role in building organisational reputation and fostering relationships with its stakeholders, by conducting business in a trustworthy and credible manner with integrity, transparency and a commitment to treating employees, customers, suppliers, investors and the wider society correctly an organisation can enhance its overall credibility (University of POTOMAC 2024).

Role of HR in Ethics

According to Adiguzel (2021), HR professionals should play a significant role in practicing ethics in organisations by implementing balance and fair HR procedures, improving health and safety, developing of equality and diversity strategies and introducing fair performance management systems and a respectful workplace culture. Importantly, this is not limited to the employees. HR should integrate ethics with other corporate policies and procedures, such as commercial policies and management practices to create a fairer and more trustworthy environment for its all stakeholders (Valecha 2022).

 

 

Conclusion

The role of HR in ethics is crucial for fostering a positive and trustworthy organisational culture. HR professionals should play a vital role for developing and enforcing ethical practices, values within the organisation and integrating ethics into corporate policies and procedures. In Sri Lankan organisations, HR face unique challenges such as respecting hierarchy, managing collectivism, and addressing diverse identities. By focusing these arias, HR can build a positive, ethical, trustworthy organisational culture, it gives benefit both the organisation and stakeholders.
